Alladin needn’t be the only one with a genie. You can have one too. It’s called Geeni, and it’s a mobile app to control all the brand’s smart home devices.

Geeni is way more portable than lugging a lamp around to have your every wish carried out, though. It’s a 63 MB download at Google Play.

Okay, it can’t make you rich and famous. But the app is a superstar at giving you voice control of Geeni devices via Amazon Echo or directly from your smartphone from literally anywhere on the planet.

It’s a rather elegant mix of simplicity and premium features to give you total control of all your Geeni-enabled smart home devices.

Updates

The app was introduced a raft of significant new features and upgrades, including:

Multiple camera views on a single screen

Geeni account linking for Google Assistant and Alexa

Support for two-factor authentication

Easier pairing for new devices

Interface improvements

Better smart scene support

Apple ID login now supported

Apple Watch support

More

The Geeni app gives you 360-degree control of all your Geeni-compatible devices. This extends from switching on and off to choosing the color and mood of your Color bulbs. Being able to schedule your Geeni smart devices remotely means you can turn on or off any device.

Say you return from work at the same time each night; you can set up all your devices to give you the perfect welcome home. As the app is cloud-based, it’s easy to log in from any phone and manage your home from afar.

The app’s dashboard also lets you share the account with family and roommates so they can control particular devices. Perfect for keeping everyone happy. It’s not all on you to manage your domestic environment for everyone’s needs.

PROS

Compatible with all Geeni-enabled smart devices

It does not require a hub

Available for Android and iOS

Multi-language support

It’s free

You can connect multiple devices in different locations

CONS

The iOS app is enormous compared to its Android counterpart

It can be buggy with Alexa

How to use

To get the Geeni app on your phone, download it from Google Play or Apple’s App Store.

After it is installed, the next step is to register an account. You can register either by email or via your phone. However, if you opt for the latter, a verification code will be sent to your mobile number. An email register only requires a password to be set up.

Emulators also allow you to run the app on desktop Windows PCs and Macs for even more convenience and flexibility.

In the app, activate the products you want to sync, and the app will display the available devices. Select the devices you want to sync with, and the app’s interface enables you to take over control remotely.
