It's good to stretch your brain and stay sharp. Blasting away at aliens and zombies is all well and good, but it's mindless entertainment.

What you need to keep your mind active is a word game. And one excellent app that's much loved in that respect is Wordscapes.

It's a little twist on the usual mobile word games and none the worse for that. It's brilliantly addictive and will soon have you locked into improving your word firepower on a daily basis.

Just ten minutes per day is sufficient to make a difference and sharpen you up for whatever lies ahead in your daily life.

The game's `scape' comes from the beautifully relaxing background scenery to help you relax and free your mind up to the task at hand. And these are progressively more challenging brain teasers that are fun and combine the best word games such as word searches, crosswords, and anagrams.

And the better you become, the more landscapes you can unlock as you find hidden words and connect letters to make words. With this app onboard your phone, you will never be bored.

Indeed, the App Store thinks so too, voting Wordscapes as its Number 1 word game. And the app ranks highly as well on Google Play.

Features

● Relaxing natural scenery backgrounds

● Excellent brain-teaser word games

● 6,000 crossword puzzles

● Multiple levels to complete at our own pace

More

Wordscapes has more than 10 million players as it is a perfect fit for crossword, anagram, and word search fans.

And when you hit a mental block, you can relax by tapping on the gorgeous background landscapes for a little visit.

Wordscapes has an impressive pedigree; it comes from the makers of other highly-rated games such as Word Stacks, Spell Blitz, World Flowers, Word Chums, Wordscapes Uncrossed, and Word Mocha.

The app runs a weekend tournament and has recently added two new features. These are:

● The Snowpack - A word game to explore the frozen north

● Verdant Woods - A forest packed with animals waiting to be found

The developers, PeopleFun, were founded in 2011 and are headquartered in Dallas, Texas. The management of PeopleFun has a long track record in games development, including the Age of Empires series and Ensemble Studios which Microsoft acquired.

PROS

● It's free

● Addictive word gameplay

CONS

● Only available in English

● Supported by ads unless you take out a one-time subscription

How to use

Google Play and Apple's App Store have the game ready for download.

The Android version needs 131 MB of storage space and Android 4.4. iOS users need to find 211.2 MB of storage space and run iOS 12.0 or later.

Users of both platforms are equally charmed with Wordscapes. Google Play users give it a 4.6 out of five, while App Store users award the game an almost perfect 4.9 out of five.

While there are some misgivings about the level of ads in the free version, almost everyone is prepared to either overlook them or stump up for the ads to go away.
